Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue

Gentle Giants

Here is another rescue that I have been asked to feature. I have found nothing but good things about this rescue and they have some really nice horses available. Their website is up to date and easy to navigate.

From their website:

"Our horses range in age and ability from young and competitive Sporthorses, to older quiet trailmounts! Some of our horses have special needs, but most just had an unfortunate run of bad luck and need a new chance at a loving home. Our efforts are supported solely by donations, adoption fees, and LOTS of volunteer sweat."

Now THERE is some volunteer appreciation!

Also from their website:

What Gentle Giants Does:
All of our horses are rescued from auctions where we are their last chance before being sold to slaughter. Our horses are chosen for their temperament, soundness, and usability. Once safely home, all horses are quarantined for a minimum of 21 days, during which we ride them extensively. All of our horses are thoroughly evaluated to aid in the best possible match for horse and rider. A successful partnership creates a bond of trust and friendship for both horse and rider, and it is our goal to find that match for every horse we save. Please check our "Available Horses" page to see if your perfect match is here!

Kudos to the "Gentle Giants" people!

Black Beauty Ranch/ The Fund For Animals

Black Beauty Ranch

This, in my opinion, is a wonderful rescue organization! They take in every kind of animal.

From their website:

The Fund for Animals was founded in 1967 by prominent author and animal advocate Cleveland Amory, and for 37 years, spearheaded some of the most significant events in the history of the animal protection movement by employing hard-hitting advocacy campaigns and operating world-famous animal care facilities, such as the Black Beauty Ranch. The Fund's historic victories have saved thousands of animals from cruelty and suffering.

Humble Hearts Haven-Pa

A woman named "Susan" started this rescue after being associated with another rescue that shut down. She takes in only one or two hard luck cases at a time. She is located in Pa. I have been unable to find a website for her, perhaps she doesn't have one. I have heard nothing but good things about this woman and her facility.

What this blog is about

I created this blog because there are so many scams out there involving horse rescues. People have a hard time trying to determine which ones are real or just people selling horses and using the term "Rescue" to make a buck. Don't be fooled just because someone claims to be a 501c3 charitable organization. The IRS seems to hand those out without any guidelines or rules.

The rescues listed here have a good reputation and have not been involved with any known scams. Not all rescues will be 501c3's. In my opinion, there are a lot of private rescues out there doing a wonderful job also.
